Information we collect

Required: email, password (encrypted), name, display language / if you sign up or log in with Google: instead of a password, your Google account ID and the email address and name verified by Google (we never receive your Google password) / for invited accounts: name, form of address, display language, email, password (encrypted) / for people who joined with quick join: only name, form of address and display language (no email; identified by the login information on that device) / conversation content (original and translated text), photos and attached files / the time zone of the device that sent each message (used to translate dates like “tomorrow” or “today” from the sender’s point of view) / block and report records / monthly translation usage, bonus balance and referral code usage records / notification subscription information / verification code request records (sign-up, joining via an invite link, logging in again — email and IP address — for abuse prevention, kept for 30 days and then deleted) / IP address at sign-up and joining (to detect many sign-ups in a short time, kept for 30 days and then deleted).
Optional (you can use every feature without entering it): how you learned about the service (including free-text input such as a company name), age group, gender, country of residence / whether you consented to receive marketing information, and when / profile picture (a default character you pick or a photo you upload).

Purposes of use

Translating and displaying conversations, operating rooms, sending notifications, managing monthly translation usage and preventing abuse.
Improving the service and usage statistics. Optional information may be provided to third parties (such as advertisers) only as statistics that cannot identify individuals. Information about individuals is not provided.
Marketing emails (new features and event news) are sent only to people who have consented. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings, and we will check again every 2 years from the date of consent whether you still consent.

Transfer outside Korea

We transfer personal information outside Korea to the companies below. To refuse this transfer, you can stop using the service or delete your account. If you refuse, we cannot provide the translation service.

Sensitive information

Conversations may include sensitive information such as health, money or family relationships. With your separate consent, this is processed only for translation. No person at the service reads the content. Exception: for a mistranslation report, we review the reported message and up to 10 messages right before it (original and translation, only those the reporter could see) only to improve translation — you are told this in advance in the report window. Report records are deleted together with the room. Exception: for a report about a person (abuse, harassment or spam), our team checks only the reported message (no messages before or after it) and may restrict the sender’s use of the service if needed.

Retention and deletion

When the room owner deletes a room, it disappears from the owner’s list right away. For the other participants it stays for 30 days as a closed room where no new messages can be sent, so they can read or export the conversation, and then it is deleted (or as soon as all remaining participants remove it; completely deleted from backups 30 days after that). Rooms with no conversation for 180 days are deleted automatically. Original photos and files are deleted after 30 days, and only the caption translation is kept. Results of Translate text in photo are deleted together with the room. When an account is deleted, all its rooms, conversations and optional information are deleted immediately. Invited accounts and quick join accounts have no expiry period, and are deleted when you leave the service or request deletion.
Translations fixed by participants (the fixed text, the name of the person who fixed it and the time) are visible to everyone in the same room. Undone fixes also remain in the history, and are deleted together with the room.

Age

People under 14 cannot sign up. When joining via an invite link (including quick join), we also confirm that you are 14 or older.

Voice

Voice input is converted to text by the speech recognition feature of your device keyboard (or browser). The service does not receive or store the audio itself.

Access, correction, deletion, suspension of processing and export — in Settings or by email (woomin@floatai.io).
